Hello All,
I would like to ask if there is a specific reason to have different classes for Server as Windows server, Linux, AIx..
Is there anything beneficial for the companies? Instead why not have one class Server and a field "type"?
Thanks

Because more often than not there are different teams responsible for the different classes. And at a couple of customers I also saw that the wanted to see different information per server class. Of course this can be done via a type, but then again: you could create one table with 'type' on it and have your entire CMDB placed in there.
If my answer helped you in any way, please then mark it as helpful.

It has been classified differently as it is easier to manage that way. In some organisations Windows Servers are managed by different team and Linux Server is managed by different team.
Both the teams may require different fields to be visible on form. They may require different related lists to be shown on the form and relationships.
These are the few things I can think of and there may be plenty other reasons.
They are there to help classifiy the servers as much as possible which in turn simplifies the process to manage those classes. If you wish to manage it using Server class you can do that. But in the long run you would definitely feel the need of having different classes for different types of servers. For better visibility and fast resolution of tickets in return fast operations and less cost
