Common Service Data Model (CSDM) 3.0 and Paris release of the ServiceNow platform are coming with changes in the CMDB structure, in the area of Technical and Application Services. This article highlights key changes in the CMDB structure by comparing old (pre-Paris) and new (Paris) data model.
Changes in the nutshell:
- Technical Service [cmdb_ci_service_technical] is a new class introduced in the Paris release, replacing usage of Service [cmdb_ci_service] class with Classification = Technical for technical services
- pre-Paris release Monitored Service [cmdb_ci_service_auto] is now an Application Service
- pre-Paris release Application Service [cmdb_ci_service_discovered] is now a Mapped Application Service
- pre-Paris release Technical Service [cmdb_ci_query_based_service] is now a Dynamic CI Group
The following picture provides overview about the CMDB classes as they exist in the Paris release with highlighted changes (old names with red font).
Calculated Application Service has been introduced in the Orlando version but it is not described anywhere in the CSDM. Also, this class is missing in the Application Service creation wizzard. This should be changed in the some future release (Quebec+). This class automatically build and synchronize topology map based on the CI relationships. If you are interested in this class, please check this post for details of the usage.
