both in our official DEV instance, just upgraded to Kingston, and in a developer instance (also kingston) i've been unable to edit the sc_landing page to remove (delete) the sc-recent-popular widget that displays in Container 5
When i select the widget, making sure that "Recent & Popular Items" display in upper right of the Designer window & that "widget" is the focus, i press the delete button (trashcan), i'm prompted to confirm the delete, and after confirming the delete the prompt goes away but the editor content view does not return, the focus goes to "container" but doesn't show the resulting page with the widget removed as i would expect. (see attachment)
clicking Preview simply shows the page as if I had made no change. Refreshing the page displays the page as if i had made no change. So all indicates that the system is blocking me from removing this widget.

Thanks to Vishrut & Nia, so my final resolve was going off what the article Nia provided about Scope, directed me to changing the scope i was in via the Application Picker - while in the backend go to the cogwheel in the upper right to open up settings, choose the Developer pane and set the Application Picker to show in the header. Then i switched the application to "service catalog service portal" then proceeded to the portal designer and was able to remove the widget from the sc_landing page as desired.
Then i went back and set the application back to Global.

Hi Lesallard,
Please find attached a screen-shot of my sc_landing page, where I have removed Recent & Popular widget. I was able to achieve this. My instance is also on Kingston patch 6.
I would love to help you, can you just illustrate screen-shot of how it is looking in your instance after removing that widget?
Please mark my answer as Correct/Helpful in case that helped you.
Regards,
Vishrut

Thank you Vishrut, the screenshot of after i attempted to delete the widget is attached to the original post but i'll paste here as well:
Note how at the top it just says column, and shows no page designer content, doesnt show the other widgets, it seems like the page is either hung or crashed. The page isn't saving when i try to delete the widget. if i click Preview it shows me the page as it was (not edited), and if i refresh then it just comes back not edited.
I tried it again today and got the same result.
Les

I've had a similar issue in the past if I happen to be in the wrong scope. So check what scope the page is in and what scope you have selected.
If the scope isn't the issue, try deleting the widget instance from the default ServiceNow UI instead of the Page Designer. You can get to it from "Service Portal" > "Pages" menu. Find the page in question and look at the "Page Content" list. Click on the "Instance" for your widget and delete from here.

You stated "when I am in the wrong scope" - can you elaborate, i'm not very familiar with widgets or the service portal. i have seen where you can access the pages through the page editor, designer, or backend as you mentioned.
If i'm just using an ootb widget (just upgraded DEV to kingston) - then is the widget in the wrong scope ootb? or are you meaning the way i'm accessing is through the wrong scope and how do i rectify?
sorry for the confusion, learning more about service portal is still on my to-do list.
