I have a set of Server Assets that all have their individual CI related to them. The thing is that I need to create a new CI and relate it to the Asset (so that I can relate the pre existing CI to the newly created CI.
I know that it's not standard procedure to modify the CI related to the Asset in ServiceNow but I really need to do that.
So my question is: how can I do this? Create a new CI and connect it to an existing Asset so that I can add a relation from the old CI to the new CI.
Kind Regards
/Henrik

I think I found what I was looking for in this post: Re-using an Asset for a new CI
I can just un-check the read only field for the Asset that is linked to a CI and select the CI that I want to link it to and then when the changes is done re-check the read only field again.
Thanks for the help anyway.
Regards
/Henrik

Hi Henrik,
I have one question. Please clarify.
Can you tell me do you want to remove Old ci from CI field on Asset and Create a new CI and Attach it to this field?
Old CI should go to Retire state?
Also from where we will get CI attributes like name, class, etc
Thank you,

Basically, this is what we have and what we want:
The CI for the Service Profile can move to different blade servers. The way we haveit at the moment is that the CI for the ServiceProfile is the CI that is linked to the Blade Asset.
I don't know t there is a better way to handel if a Configuration is moved from one asset to another, but this is what I assumed was the best way to handle if a configuration is moving around.
Any feedback?

Hi Henrik,
It is possible to move CI to different asset no problem.
But how will you identify which CI you want to create and which you want to move?
Thank you,

How is this done? Can you show me in the GUI using screen dumps?
Our technicians have full control over the Assets and CIs the needs to be linked. We just need to know how this can be done. Thanks in advance.
