I have a set of Server Assets that all have their individual CI related to them. The thing is that I need to create a new CI and relate it to the Asset (so that I can relate the pre existing CI to the newly created CI.
I know that it's not standard procedure to modify the CI related to the Asset in ServiceNow but I really need to do that.
So my question is: how can I do this? Create a new CI and connect it to an existing Asset so that I can add a relation from the old CI to the new CI.
Kind Regards
/Henrik

I think I found what I was looking for in this post: Re-using an Asset for a new CI
I can just un-check the read only field for the Asset that is linked to a CI and select the CI that I want to link it to and then when the changes is done re-check the read only field again.
Thanks for the help anyway.
Regards

Hi
I am new to SN and Asset/cmdb I would appreciate you help
How do you relate a CI to an asset
also the state field on the asset and the status field on the CI for do they need to match, is there a harm in hanging them or adding to them
is asset, ci , cmdb the same
what fields should be on the Asset Form and What Fields should be on the ci form or cmdb form
I greatly appreciate any help on this

Hi Kiran!
Well this topic of CMDB, CI and Assets is quite a big topic. It's not really something I can just give you a short answer to.
When creating an Asset in ServiceNow, the CI is usually created along with that Asset and also linked to it. That way you can go from one to the other and back.
- CMDB: Where you store all your data - CMDB | Configuration Management Database | ServiceNow
- Assets: Can be hardware assets and software assets for example. Basically, something that is an asset to the organisation.
- CI or Configuration Item: A configuration of an item. For example How much Disk/Ram and what state a server might have.
Kind regards
