Federated Knowledge Management Possibilities?

I am new to this forum (but not to service management industry) and this is my first post so I'm not sure if I have selected proper forum. 

 

I am interested in exploring the possibility of setting up federated knowledge management with Service now especially when knowledge management system is already established in third party tool with a tremendous amount of articles. It is not feasible option to migrate everything to service now considering the huge data. Is it possible to setup it in a federated way - Users can search KAs using keywords and system can lookup the external system and populate relevant links?
