While I'm no Device42 expert by any stretch of the imagination, I do know it's a third party application. While the initial cost may be lower, there are higher costs in maintaining multiple apps/platforms.

The biggest pro for ServiceNow, in my opinion, is that it's a single platform. There's no integration. What you discover is ready to use immediately. It truly is a single source of record.

Integrations always lead to complexity and risk when you upgrade. Are your third party apps and integrations ready to upgrade to I, J, or K (pick your favorite latest ServiceNow release) when you are?

I really like your points ctomasi, I think they are spot on... It's all about looking further in the future and not just at the initial costs, which even might be higher with the time spending on integration and not to mention the time you lose which making the integration which you don't lose if you use Discovery since you dont need integration.

Device42 is a great choice when it comes to Discovery, and in my opinion, much easier to use, as well. It is true that Device42 offers many native integrations, and has powerful, well documented RESTful APIs that allow for custom integrations with just about any tool, and Webhooks, too which among other things, can create tickets in your ITSM systems, and power automation.

That said, the integrations are great if you are bent on using more than one tool -- and Device42 is not, and will never be an ITSM (ticketing) system. Device42 fully supports ALL the integrations - and that support, though you likely won't ever need it, is always free (even if you're a trial user!).

But that's neither here nor there, because Device42 is a lot more than a CMDB. A commenter above painted Device42 as a "third party application". Every application that isn't the application you currently have open is a "3rd party" application. We consider ServiceNow 3rd party, as a matter of fact, though we absolutely do integrate! But on that note, Device42 is a VERY complete tool. ITSM aside, Device42 is a great choice because it handles your Password management with a built in, secure password vault; it has great drag and drop room and rack layout support (for tracking physical locations of devices, or where VMs live, etc.), cable management, lifecycle management, SSL cert. management, support contract management, and more (check out the website!) -- And to top it off, features are added often as customers and the industry trends demand them (check out our release notes...!), so if you're always using the latest and greatest, Device42 will surely be right there to support you.

AND THEN, on top of being a bargain compared to competitors, our solid, feature-packed, fully supported integrations are there for you when it comes time to connect your CMDB with the ITSM tool of your choice. The fact of the matter is that there are many great ITSM systems out there already -- We use them here at Device42, and we don't want to try to re-invent the wheel. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!".   However, when it came to the CMDB realm, Discovery, and all the nuances that go along with a great data federation system, Device42 was conceived because we believed and still do believe nobody else has yet gotten it right, or can do it better. So, we do what do we best, and we integrate where great solutions already exist.

Hope that answers your question!   -- and do feel free to ask any follow up questions -- I work for Device42, so I'm more than glad to answer them, and if you happen to ask one I don't have the answer to, well, I'll get it! Otherwise, go grab our free trial -- and have fun! You're a fully supported customer in our eyes from the moment you download!

No there's an unbiased opinion. NOT!   Not seeing anything here that NOW doesn't do an better.
Perhaps you should decamp to the Device42 fanboy site.
