While still shotgunning subnets with Discovery, the best way to kill of certain items is by either disabling an entire class of probes (like your *nix question) or by customizing the Classification settings for a particular item (like Win7).
There is a generic Windows Classification called "Windows" that creates all workstations no matter which version of Windows it is running. You could set the Classification Criteria to exclude certain Windows versions. You might need a little playing around here, but you should be mostly fine by setting Caption "doesnotcontain" Windows 7.

When using Discovery, you put in an IP address or an IP range. Do you know if the Windows machines are on a specific IP range?
Failing that, you could disable the the specific ports that check for Windows machines (such as 135 and 137), if you are using Geneva find more information here:
Or, you can disable the Windows probes themselves and again, if you are using Geneva you can find more information here:
The best way is via IP address but there are other methods (noted above) that would work.

Hi Brandon
I dont know the IPs of the Linux or Unix machines, so I guess I can disable the probes that are related to Linux and Unix.
Now what about if I want to disable just the Windows 7 machines, but still keep the other type of windows machines ?
Thanks
