Can someone please help me?

Hello all,

I am someone who is pretty new to what ServiceNow is and what kind of opportunities it has to offer.

I want to pursue getting the CSA certification along with other certs that are needed to become a junior systems admin or even junior business analyst. My problem is that I'm trying to secure a job that lets me work remote and is Mon-Fri.

I've had a really hard time trying to find remote, entry level jobs for the path that I'm looking to take and I'm not sure if I'm just not looking in the right places or what I'm missing. All in all I just want to make sure that I'm not wasting my time getting the CSA cert and pursuing other certifications because I'm not able to see the jobs I WOULD apply for after obtaining the certs.

thank you in advance to anyone who's willing to take time to help me figure out my future.

Hi @SH101 ,

 What is CSA really?

The ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) is the entry-level certification in the ServiceNow ecosystem.

It proves:

  • You understand the platform

  • You know tables, forms, users, roles, workflows, basic config

  • You can navigate and configure the system

But — and this is important —

CSA alone does not guarantee a job.

It’s like getting a driver’s license. It shows you can drive, but companies still want some road experience.

 Is It Worth Getting CSA?

Yes — IF:

  • You want to enter the ServiceNow ecosystem long-term

  • You're willing to build hands-on experience (even in a personal dev instance)

  • You understand that the first job may not be fully remote

No — IF:

  • You expect immediate remote work after certification

  • You don’t plan to practice hands-on

 Reality About Remote Entry-Level Roles

Here’s the honest market situation in 2026:

  • Entry-level ServiceNow roles are competitive

  • Most companies prefer:

    • Some IT background

    • Or internship/experience

  • Fully remote + entry-level + no experience = rare combination

Not impossible. But rare.

Remote jobs usually go to:

  • Developers with experience

  • Admins with 1–2+ years

  • Consultants

Smart Strategy (What I’d Do If I Were Starting Today)

Step 1: Get CSA
Step 2: Build hands-on in free developer instance
Step 3: Learn one module deeply:

  • ITSM (most common)

  • Or CSM

  • Or HRSD

Step 4: Create a small portfolio:

  • Custom app

  • Business rules

  • Flow Designer automation

  • Custom table extending Task

Step 5: Apply for:

  • Hybrid roles

  • Contract roles

  • Implementation partners

Honest Opinion

You are NOT wasting your time getting CSA.

But you may be:

  • Expecting remote too early

  • Limiting your search too much

Think of CSA as:

Entry ticket into a high-paying ecosystem

After 2–3 years in ServiceNow:

  • 6-figure salary possible (depending on country)

  • Remote options increase massively

  • Strong career stability

Hi @SH101

Welcome to the ServiceNow community! First of all, you are absolutely NOT wasting your time — ServiceNow is one of the fastest-growing platforms in the enterprise tech space, and the demand for certified professionals continues to rise year over year.

Here are a few things that might help you on your journey:

📌 WHERE TO LOOK FOR JOBS
Entry-level remote ServiceNow roles can be tricky to find on general job boards. Try these more targeted approaches:
• LinkedIn – Search "ServiceNow Administrator remote entry level" and set job alerts
• Indeed / Dice / Glassdoor – Use filters for remote + entry level
• ServiceNow's own careers page (servicenow.com/careers)
• Staffing agencies that specialize in IT (e.g., TEKsystems, Robert Half, Insight Global) — they often have ServiceNow contracts that aren't publicly posted

📌 WHAT TO REALISTICALLY EXPECT
Many entry-level ServiceNow roles are labeled as:
• IT Service Desk / ITSM Analyst
• ServiceNow Admin (Junior)
• Business Systems Analyst
• Platform Support Analyst
Some of these may start hybrid before going fully remote, so keeping an open mind early on can open more doors.

📌 CERTIFICATIONS TO PRIORITIZE
For a Junior Admin or BA path, focus on:
1. CSA (Certified System Administrator) — your foundation, great starting point
2. CIS-ITSM (Certified Implementation Specialist – IT Service Management) — adds strong value
3. Micro-certifications on Now Learning (free!) — Welcome to ServiceNow, Fundamentals, etc.

📌 A TIP THAT GOES A LONG WAY
Build hands-on experience using a free Personal Developer Instance (PDI) from developer.servicenow.com. Document what you build, create a small portfolio, and mention it on your resume and LinkedIn. This alone can set you apart from other entry-level candidates who only have the cert.

You're asking the right questions at the right time — that's already a great sign. Keep pushing, the opportunities are out there. Hope this helps! If this was useful, feel free to mark it as Helpful so others in the same boat can find it too. 💪

Hi @SH101,

Welcome to the ServiceNow Community!!!🎊

The ServiceNow Community is a platform where developers, administrators, and learners come together to ask questions, share solutions, and learn from each other. It’s especially helpful when you’re stuck on a real-time issue in scripting, Flow Designer, integrations, or configurations. Instead of learning only from courses, you get exposure to real project-based problems and practical solutions.

Being active in the community can really support your learning. When you ask questions, you gain clarity. When you answer others, your own understanding becomes stronger. Over time, you build confidence, improve troubleshooting skills, and stay updated with new releases and best practices.

Yes, there are rewards for being active. You can earn reputation points, badges, and ranks when your answers are marked helpful or correct. While there may not be direct monetary rewards, the recognition, visibility, and networking opportunities can definitely help in your career growth.
