How can we add a planned duration of 0.5 days in the project template?

Currently, when we set the planned duration to 0.5 days, it appears as 0 seconds in the planning console.

Hey @Ria,
 The planning console doesn't support fractional days well. Enter 4 hours instead of 0.5 days.

Eventually try the decimal "," (comma) instead of "." (dot)

Refer this KB: KB0552065 Project Scheduling Engine 

ServiceNow calculates durations using standard 8-hour working days. Planning Duration does not accept decimal . So instead of 0.5, input exact hour. 

If you still need 0.5 , you have to customize the space with new field addition and map that wherever required.
