Need Career Advice: Transitioning from HR to ServiceNow – Struggling to Find a Fresher Opportunity

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for some guidance from the ServiceNow community.

I have 7 years of experience in the HR domain and recently decided to transition my career into ServiceNow. To prepare for this career change, I completed ServiceNow training in System Administration and HR Service Delivery (HRSD). However, I have not yet taken the CSA (Certified System Administrator) certification exam.

Despite applying for many jobs, I have not been able to secure interviews or a fresher opportunity. Most openings seem to require prior ServiceNow project experience, which makes it difficult to get started.

I would really appreciate your advice on the following:

• Is the CSA certification mandatory to get an entry-level ServiceNow job, or are there companies that hire candidates based on their training and skills?

• Which job portals or websites are best for finding ServiceNow fresher opportunities?

• Are there companies that hire career changers or freshers with no ServiceNow project experience?

• What else can I do to improve my chances of getting my first ServiceNow job?

• Would contributing to personal projects, volunteering, or participating in the ServiceNow Community help? If so, how should I get started?

I am committed to building my career in ServiceNow and am willing to put in the effort to gain practical experience. Any suggestions, resources, or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

ServiceNow is getting bigger, wider, and deeper with every release. Because of this, attending a single training course or earning a certification alone won't guarantee success. Certifications validate your knowledge, but what truly matters is building strong fundamentals and continuously learning as the platform evolves.

It's a tough question, but based on what I'm seeing in today's job market, CSA is becoming almost mandatory for entry-level ServiceNow roles.

Many companies hiring freshers or junior professionals now list the Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification as either a requirement or a strong preference. Having CSA on your resume significantly improves your chances of getting shortlisted because it demonstrates that you understand the fundamentals of the ServiceNow platform.

If you haven't completed CSA yet, I strongly recommend making it your first milestone.

Which job portals or websites are best for finding ServiceNow fresher opportunities?

Atul:

My top recommendation is LinkedIn.

Not only does it have a large number of ServiceNow job postings, but it's also one of the best places to network with recruiters, consultants, and hiring managers.

I also recommend:

• Following ServiceNow partners and customers that regularly hire.

• Connecting with ServiceNow professionals and recruiters.

• Engaging with posts related to ServiceNow careers.

• Setting up job alerts for keywords such as ServiceNow Administrator, Junior ServiceNow Developer, Business Analyst, and Functional Consultant.

Networking is just as important as applying for jobs.

Are there companies that hire career changers or freshers with no ServiceNow project experience?

Atul:

This is a difficult one to answer because it depends entirely on the company, location, and current hiring demand.

Some organizations are willing to hire career changers or freshers if they demonstrate strong platform knowledge, enthusiasm, and a willingness to learn. Others prefer candidates with implementation experience.

My advice is not to be discouraged. Keep building your skills and applying consistently.

What else can I do to improve my chances of getting my first ServiceNow job?

Atul:

Build a strong portfolio.

Having only CSA or another certification may not be enough in today's competitive market.

Try to learn and showcase skills in areas such as:

• ITSM

• Flow Designer

• Performance Analytics (PA)

• AI and Now Assist

• CSM

• GRC (or another product that interests you)

Create small projects in your Personal Developer Instance (PDI) and document them. These projects demonstrate practical knowledge and give you something meaningful to discuss during interviews.

Also, spend time in the ServiceNow Community. Reading questions and answers exposes you to real-world scenarios that you won't always find in training courses.

Atul:

Absolutely.

The ServiceNow Community is one of the best free learning resources available.

You can:

• Answer community questions where you're confident.

• Read solutions posted by experienced professionals.

• Build small personal projects in your PDI.

• Recreate real-world use cases discussed in the Community.

• Document your projects and add them to your portfolio.

There are countless ideas available in the Community. Pick a use case, build it yourself, understand how it works, and include it in your portfolio.

This combination of certifications, hands-on practice, community participation, and continuous learning will significantly improve your chances of landing your first ServiceNow role.
