Nearly 600,000 veterans are unemployed nationally, and with an estimated 30,000 service members, including the Guard and Reserves, leaving the military each year over the next five years, that number is expected to rise. Women veterans are the fastest growing segment of the U.S.homeless population. The risk of female veterans becoming homeless is four times greater than that of male veterans. Similarly the unemployment rate for military spouses is at 26% (much higher than the general public) and a full 96% of spouses are considered underemployed.
Given the reality of today's economy of the two- income family to make ends meet - it is critical to provide all veterans, women veterans and military spouses with training that leads to viable careers with opportunities for advancement and job security. A career in technology provides a promising and lasting pathway to familial financial security.
NPower is committed to building brighter futures for veterans and spouses by providing access and opportunity to tech skills to help them achieve their potential.
NPower, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Brooklyn, NY with offices is northern California, North Texas, Toronto and New Jersey,
provides a free Technology Service Corps training program to veterans and military spouses to learn the skills needed to assume jobs in the tech
industry. The NPower program has a solid history in this arena - 80% of its graduates are either employed or back in school within one year of graduation.
Crucial corporate partnerships with tech and non-tech companies alike provide support for our educational program as well offer
impactful apprenticeships and employment opportunities. The majority of our graduates hold certificates in A+ and ServiceNow. Providing this training and professional employment to veterans and military spouses in the San Francisco Bay Area is critical due to the extremely high cost of living and demand for trained technology professionals.
We provide free technology and professional skills training. We offer mentoring from business leaders, paid apprenticeships and career development workshops at leading corporations and nonprofits, industry-recognized certifications as well as employment and alumni services. More than 80% of our alumni are employed or pursuing higher education within one year of graduation.
