Agile Development - Project methodologies

Hi all,

What changes in the project in the project workspace if you select a specific methodology?

This is what I noticed:

- waterfall -> standard project view

- agile -> agile phase (sprint), stories, epics are now visible; in the Planning section it is not clear what PM can do, I see "Add phase", then what? Can you please explain?

- hybrid -> what is supposed to change? How concretely the PM should behave to manage the project with this methodology?

Many thanks

Agile Methodology in ServiceNow: When you select agile, ServiceNow transforms the workspace to support Scrum practices:

  • Planning Section: When you see "Add phase" in agile mode, you're actually adding Sprints (not traditional waterfall phases). Here's what you can do:
    • Create time-boxed sprints (typically 1-4 weeks)
    • Set sprint goals and capacity
    • Assign stories and tasks to specific sprints
    • Manage the sprint backlog
  • New Artifacts: You'll see Stories, Epics, and Tasks instead of just traditional project tasks
  • Backlog Management: You can prioritize and manage the product backlog
  • Sprint Planning: Plan what work goes into each sprint
  • Agile Boards: Kanban-style boards for tracking story progress

Hybrid Methodology in ServiceNow: Hybrid mode combines waterfall structure with agile execution:

  • Dual Structure: You maintain traditional project phases for high-level planning while using sprints for development work
  • Flexibility: You can have waterfall-style requirements and design phases, then switch to agile sprints for development
  • Mixed Artifacts: Both traditional tasks and agile stories/epics are available
  • Governance: More structured approval processes typical of waterfall, but with agile delivery methods

How to Behave as PM in Each Mode:

  • Agile: Focus on backlog prioritization, sprint planning, removing blockers, and facilitating ceremonies
  • Hybrid: Balance upfront planning with iterative delivery, managing both traditional milestones and sprint goals
