APW vs. Business Planner

I have a client that wants to know why/when they would use Alignment Planner Workspace versus using Business Planner. There doesn't seem to be any documentation I can find on this anywhere, if that exists please point me in that direction.

I know APW could be very valuable to what they are wanting but they are currently using the Business Planning portal and are asking why they should bother switching to APW.

ServiceNow Alignment Planner Workspace (APW) and Business Planner are both designed to help organizations plan and manage their business strategies and initiatives. However, there are some key differences between the two that may make one more suitable than the other depending on the specific needs of the organization.

Alignment Planner Workspace is designed to facilitate the alignment of business goals and initiatives with IT portfolios and resources. It provides a collaborative workspace for business and IT stakeholders to define strategic goals, create initiatives, and map them to IT resources such as applications, infrastructure, and services. APW helps ensure that the organization's IT investments are aligned with its strategic objectives, and that IT resources are being used effectively to support business initiatives.

On the other hand, Business Planner is focused on financial planning and budgeting for the organization. It provides a centralized platform for creating, managing, and tracking budgets, forecasts, and financial plans. Business Planner also provides financial analytics and reporting tools to help organizations monitor and optimize their financial performance.

In terms of when to use each tool, APW is best suited for organizations that need to align business and IT strategies, and ensure that IT investments are aligned with business objectives. Business Planner, on the other hand, is more suitable for organizations that need to manage financial planning and budgeting processes, and optimize their financial performance.

In summary, APW and Business Planner serve different purposes and are designed to address different needs. Depending on the specific requirements of the organization, one or both tools may be useful. I would recommend assessing the organization's needs and objectives to determine which tool(s) would be most beneficial. If you need further assistance in understanding the specific capabilities of each tool and how they might meet your client's needs, I would suggest reaching out to ServiceNow support or a ServiceNow partner for more information.

If you found my response helpful or applicable, please consider marking it as correct or helpful to assist others who may be seeking the same information.
