Customizing Project status report

We are exploring options to customise the status report to add/remove fields to make it more relevant. Can someone share experience around the same and any challenges in customising the OOTB status report?

Any pointers will be really helpful

Hi Dhiren,

We have customized the Status Report, to make it more applicable to business operations.  It is done via the Portal Configuration.  Knowledge on how to configure portal widgets is needed.  We found making changes was appreciated and increased the value of the platform.

Where we had a challenge was having more than one status report.  It was easy to build a 2nd or 3rd status report, however we had to either create a 2nd related link or put the URL in a field on the project.  We could not figure out how to have a dynamic link for options from the investment portal page as an example.

Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your insights. Yes, I think as you mentioned the focus should be to customise the status report to align with business needs. This is what my direction also would be.

Definitely we want to be as much OOTB as possible, but just gathering information if we want to take a path for report customization.

What would be a better option to customise the existing OOTB status report or create an all-new status report?

Hi Dhiren,

From a technical perspective, I would update the OOTB Status Report because this will work with all the links, from the Related Link on the Project Form, From the Project Status and Investment Portal, and from the pm_main view, the view where you have Status, details, Resources, Status Report across the top.  You might see collisions when you upgrade, that would would need to address.

Doing the above means all your PMs would use the same report, regardless of the department they work in.  For example if you have an IT and HR depts. using PPM, they would use the same report.  Sometimes we find that different departments want different details on their status report
