Excluding some Product Ideas from SPW

In SPW, I want to only show Product Ideas that have not been linked to another planning item. What filters should I use to edit the Portfolio view appropriately in the Strategic Planning Workspace?

Hi @Sharna Duff ,

In Strategic Planning Workspace, a Product Idea is considered “linked” when it is associated to another planning item (Objective, Epic, Capability, etc.) through the Idea Relationship records.

To show only Product Ideas that are NOT linked, you need to filter on the absence of related planning items, not on a simple field on the idea itself.

Recommended Portfolio view filters

Edit the Portfolio view and apply both of the following filters:

  1. Limit to Product Ideas

Planning item type is Product Idea

  1. Exclude ideas that have relationships

Use a Does not have (or equivalent) condition on the relationship table:

Idea relationships is empty

Depending on your instance/UI, this may appear as:

Idea relationships -is empty

Planning item relationships  is -empty

Does not have related record -Idea Relationship

This ensures only Product Ideas with no linked Objectives, Epics, or other planning items appear.

Why this works

SPW links items via relationship records, not flags on the idea

Filtering on relationship emptiness is the only reliable way to identify “unlinked” ideas

Status, state, or portfolio alone will not tell you if an idea is linked

Common mistakes to avoid

Filtering on state (e.g., “New” or “Draft”) -linked ideas can still be new

Filtering on portfolio only -linkage is independent of portfolio

Expecting a boolean “linked” field — none exists out of the box

If this helps you then mark it as helpful and accept it as solution.
