Hello,
Is it possible to add a new resource to already allocated resource plan? I was hoping that with the San Diego release, this would be an option...
Use case: one of the teams hired a new employee and want to add her to the existing resource plan. Creating a new resource plan would add more complexity with planned vs actual hours and would require monitoring and reporting on multiple resource plans for that manager.
Thank you!
Ash

Hi @Ash ,
Hope you are doing fine & Thanks for taking the clarification.
I have created a video to explain the steps for adding the new member on the existing allocated (task based) resource plan. Hope you will find it useful.
Please mark it as correct answer if it was able to solve the query.
Thanks,

Hi @Ash ,
From your question it is not clear if the ask is for Operational RPLN or task based (project / demand) RPLN hence I am responding for both the scenarios...
For Operational RPLN: Starting Rome release, Resource Manager (RM) can add the new team member to the fully allocated operational RPLN from resource allocation workbench (RAW). This is true if the operational RPLN is created with Request Type as %Capacity.
For Task Based RPLN: RM cannot add the new member to the fully allocated operational RPLN. This makes sense as well because once the RPLN is completely allocated for the number of requested hours (or FTE or Person days) there is no logic to add the new member. However, RM can always deduct the allocation of existing allocated members and then add the new member to the already allocated RPLN. This will result in
- adding the new member to the already allocated resource plan &
- added member will be allocated for the number of hours which were released from existing members.
Hope you find this helpful.
Feel free to mark this as correct answer if it resolved your query.
Thanks,

Hi Namita,
Nice hearing from you again and thanks for the response!
My question is regarding a task based resource plan. I tried to do this "However, RM can always deduct the allocation of existing allocated members and then add the new member to the already allocated RPLN." but it is still cancelling the existing plan and requesting a new one. Is there a specific instruction on how to do the steps?
If I have a new employee and want to add her to an existing fully allocated resource plan, I would think that it should be possible. Logically it should work similar to the operational resource plan Add functionality with the option of distribution based on hours. For example (monthly even distribution), if I have 4 staff members and each are allocated to a project for 20 hours for the next 3 months (total 80 hours/month), once I add a new resource/employee, that resource plan would have 5 resources and each with 16 hours for the next 3 months.
Thank you again,
Ash

Thank you very much Namita! The video was super helpful!!!
I hope that you would consider a simple "Add a Resource" button similar to the "Extend Resource Plan" on the RWA for the future releases. It could do a simple math based on what I described above in my example. As we have experience in the last couple of years, resources join and leave the organization in a higher numbers and would be great to make this an easier process for all the resource manager.
Thank you again and have a great day!
Ash
