Move Allocated Resource Plans from one Project to another

Hi Community,

I have the following use case and would appreciate your input on a potential solution: we have a programme which has been managed as a project record on the system. Its scope has grown significantly to the point that a decision was made to create a program record and a handful of additional projects which are workstreams of the program.

The thing is that the initial project record has remained on the system and from the Resourcing pov, all the plans are linked to this record only. Currently there are over 200 Resource Plan records onto this project and the ask is whether is possible to move these plans onto their relevant projects created afterwards.

In terms of state, they are a mix of Allocated and Requested - some of them would have time cards attached to them, some would not. I know that related to resource plans, besides the time cards, we also have cost plans and expense lines which get generated by the system when resource plans, respectively time cards get created which from what I can tell would complicate the process of actually moving the plans to other projects.

On top of this, we have enabled the property which enforces the plan's date to be aligned with the project's which means that we won't be able to move resource plans which do not align with the new project (if moving it is possible at all).

Is there any way to achieve this? Move Resource Plan records (especially Allocated ones) from one project to another without major issues? If so, what would be the steps to achieve that?

Or would it be better to just re-create the plans onto the newly created projects from scratch and cancel/complete those from that initial project?

Interested to understand what would be best practice and the effort involved in meeting such requirement so I could go back to my stakeholders.

Thank you in advance.

Paula

I believe any manipulation of the task on an allocated Resource Plan will yeild the cancelation of that resource plan- a new one will automatically be created and assigned the new Task- you can try it in Test.

Even extending the end date cant be done manually or it will yield same result unless you use the Extend Plan Button.

Requested I think but not sure can be moved but i dont think so . If you fundamentally need these in different Projects then you an proceed with the awareness of the results- any previously allocated time aggregtaes and actual will still be rolled up to the old task.

Everything can be used as a learning opportunity - aka in the future from lessons learned you may decide to split up something like this from the start - please experiment with cause and effect to confirm my advice and do your best!
