Hello Everyone,
Please advise on the following
How to set few tasks as optional for eg : in the below planning 9,11,14 tasks can be skipped. The tasks need to be after 8,10and 13
- I have 2 project templates : - Template A with 20 tasks and dependencies and Template B with 35 tasks with dependencies. What is the best way to use both the templates in 1 project if required? I an aware we can add multiple templates to a project. How will the tasks date get adjusted?
- Will both the templates A and B take the project start date? How does applying multiple project templates work.
- Is there a way we can add Template B tasks in between Template A tasks or should it be done manually?
Thanks in Advance.

The best way for you to get a feel for this is just create a couple simple templates on your PDI and see for yourself. As far as I remember, when you add a template to a project it just puts the topmost level tasks as 1st level tasks on the project.
"Will the tasks date get adjusted"?
Which task(s)? Templates are pretty simple. When you add from a template it just places all those tasks at the bottom of your Planning Console starting at the start date. Where they end depends on any dependencies captured in the template itself.
Will both the templates A and B take the project start date?
Templates are just dumped under the last existing task and start at the beginning of the project timeline. Observe.
Is there a way we can add Template B tasks in between Template A tasks or should it be done manually?
Create a Template C with the mix of A & B tasks that you want.

There's no such thing. A Project Plan is there to have maximum visibility to the total potential schedule, cost, and resource outlay for a given initiative.
If you have a template where X number of tasks were optional, how do you imagine making them optional WOULD work? There's nothing about the project pre-invocation of the template that would tell it either way.
So if it were my shop I'd either make a template to cover each scenario, OR I'd simply train my PMs to remove templated tasks that they believe are unnecessary for the project.
