Project tasks set to pending rather than closed when parent is closed

Posted this on the ITSM forum by mistake earlier, but I need help with a state handling issue a customer is experiencing. When a project is set to Closed Complete and the user selects "OK" on the prompt which states that all project tasks will be closed, one of three things happens:

1) The Project closes normally and all project tasks are closed.

2) The Project saves as Closed Complete but ALL project tasks (even those previously at a complete state) become set to Pending

3) The project tasks close but the project record itself saves as the Pending state

Clearly the customer wants only scenario 1 to occur, but scenarios 2 and 3 are happening more commonly. I haven't been able to determine anything consistent about what causes 2 or 3 to occur, and I'm wondering if it's just a lack of understanding of project management on my part. Any help would be appreciated!

I am experiencing the same thing, there are several projects that are closed complete but for some reason there are tasks showing up on dashboards as pending and I am unable to close them.

I tried to replicate the scenario in my PDI, but seems it is working perfectly fine as expected. When I set the Project state to "Closed Complete" and hit the save button it gave me a message pop-up that all project tasks will be moved to closed complete and set to 100% and it happened exactly the same way.

Can you give it a try to other project and see if it behaving as expected.

I experienced this same (Project tasks set to pending rather than closed when the parent is closed) issue when I placed my project to closed complete and had project tasks in a work-in-progress state/closed complete state. Screenshot attached.

Also, when I set the project task which I initially manually set to closed complete and was later updated to the pending state by the Project to closed complete manually, and look up the history of the states, I noticed there is no activity in the project task updating the state to pending on the project tasks. It just shows that the state was pending but is now closed complete.

Does anyone have any idea why this is going on?
