Project templates -Applying Template to Existing Project Changes Planned Start Date

Hi Community,

When I use the "Apply Template" UI action on an existing project which has already have project tasks in it, the project's planned start date is getting overwritten — it changes to a different value (seemingly from the template or task alignment logic).

However, as per expected behavior:

The planned start date of the project should remain unchanged.

The tasks in the template should be added and aligned relative to the project's start date

But in my case:

The project’s own planned start date is being updated automatically right after applying the template

I'm using the OOTB "Apply Template" UI action (no customizations in the UI action itself)

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi @Captain Gaming ,

Apply Template takes the planned start date from the template your selected .

What you can do is leave the planned start or any dates as empty on your template and then apply template on that project.

Thanks,

Hi @Sandeep

Thank you for your response..

Planned start date(start_date) is a default element which will automatically come in to template after you click on "save as new template" and that default elements are read only  for admin also. Now when i apply template to the existing project with task already & created new tasks but at the task level it is taking different planed start date and the same is reflecting at the project level. Please suggest why this is happening..
ootb behavior: Whe you apply the template on the existing project, then it picks the planned start date from the project record and using the relative duration (based on the template), the planned end date is automatically calculated.
