Reconciling Demands to Projects using the Reference fields

Hi All,

We started our implementation of SPM introducing Demand Management, and are adding in Project Management. We did an import of projects in our environment and are looking to link the projects to the respective, existing demands using the out of the box reference fields on the tables. We're looking to stay out of the box and noticed that when we try to update the demand reference field on the project list view there is a "Security prevents from writing to this field" message and the box is grayed out. I understand why this is done, as the intent is to create projects from demands.

We've tried exporting to excel, updating the Demand field (which exports as the name) and then importing. However that does not seem to work, nor does using the demand record sys_id or DMND number in the excel import.

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong here, so looking for guidance on how we might accomplish this?

Update: I was trying to do this through the Project Import / Update functionality, and have since moved to creating an Import Set and Transform to support this. Using this method, the import appears to call for the Demand name rather than a unique identifier (sys_id or DMND#), which I find interesting... however, it is working. If there's a better way out there, let me know. Thanks!
