Resource Assignment for Stories Not Visible on Project Workspace Resource Board

Hi Everyone,

We are exploring the Resource Assignment functionality in Project Workspace and have observed an inconsistent behavior when assigning resources to stories.

When we create and submit a resource assignment for a story, the assignment does not appear on the Resource Board in Project Workspace and the below message is displayed. However, this issue occurs only for certain resource assignments while others work as expected.

Could anyone help clarify w
hat are the default conditions or criteria that determine whether a resource assignment appears on the Resource Board. Are there any restrictions or dependencies related to the story, resource or resource assignment record that could prevent it from appearing?

Any guidance on  this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

From memory, if you view the resource assignment in the Core UI, and add the "top task" column to your list layout , is this field empty for the assignments you're not seeing?

This is the field used to filter which resource assignments you see in project workspace.

This is populated from the story, meaning your story record lacks this value too.

Hi @Kieran Anson ,

The resource assignment has the 'Top task' field populated. And the story records also have the 'Top task' populated as the Project for which I am trying to create Resource Assignments.

Also, this behavior is observed in certain stories only from that particular project. The other Resource Assignments can be seen on the resource board. Have attached the screenshot below

Hello ShaldaC,

Resource Management Workspace will show give one row per resource assignment for a resource while the Resources tab in Project Workspace will give one row per resource assignment to that specific project.  Both PW and RMW will show the total effort.  (see attached screenshots, one from PW and one from RMW).

I do want to call out that resource assignments on a story are not enabled out of the box.  While we try to support all resource assignments, some tailored configurations may not be fully supported.  i.e., We have not built in specific rules preventing a RA on a story from starting before or ending after the planned dates of the story.

I also wanted to let you know that as of the September release, you can associate a story to a project task (so it will be displayed in the project gantt) without adversely impacting the schedule.

I hope this helps,

Hi @Chris Cannella ,

Thank you for your response.

However, is there a way to identify the OOB script responsible for this validation and the source of the info message displayed when a Resource Assignment does not match the Resource Board's filter conditions?

I would like to understand the underlying logic so that I can troubleshoot why certain Resource Assignments are not appearing on the Resource Board, even though they seem to meet the filter conditions.

Thank you for your help.
