Which is better to use as a first time user of Resource Management application, Resource Assignment or Resource Plan?

Hello Pinky,

I'm on the Product Management side of the house, so my answer will be somewhat biased.

As a rule, I would recommend the resource assignments.  They are part of the next experience and are required if you want to leverage the new Resource Management Workspace, the new Capacity Planning, or the lower tray in Project Workspace to manage resources on projects.  There was a strong push with resource assignments to simplify the experience and give the project managers more options, but still giving clients the ability to let their resource managers maintain control.

I do understand that some clients have specific needs when managing resources, and in some cases there may be a feature that is currently only available in the legacy resource plans or may be available to resource assignments but in a release you are not yet on.  Depending on how you want to manage resources AND the release you are on, your implementation consultant should be able to make a suggestion.

Take care and best of luck,

Chris

Hi @Alpa82 ,

Hope you are doing well.

Actually I won't recommend to change this value.. This is because if you use a larger number, you may experience undesired behaviour in terms of the performance.

Still if you would like to go ahead, you can set the value greater than 100 for the system property sn_rm_ws_resource_portfolio_max_number_of_users

I would strongly recommend not to update the value of this property... still if required please test in sub production environment before finalizing any changes to this property.

If this answers the query, please mark the response as correct answer.

Happy SPM Learning!

Thank You!

Thank you @Namita Mishra , I could not find this system property in our demo instance.
The only one I could find was: com.snc.resource_management.number_of_users_to_fetch_in_finder_at_once
Background:
If the customer has resource groups by BU's and those have 100's in some cases 1000s members which I would agree is not an ideal but limit of 100 users makes this feature unusable. Are there any best practices/suggestions on the creation/management of the Resource groups, in case they are being used for filtering? thank you

Hello,

Unfortunately this limit can't currently be adjusted. Our Engineering team is looking into this for the future, but the only current workaround is to split the resource grouping into multiple cards, using the filter to split those resources.

Hello,

By default the max number is set to 100.  If you want to increase that number you will need to create the following property in the Global scope and then update the value

sn_rm_ws_resource_portfolio_max_number_of_users

The max value is there for performance.  If you want to put in a higher number you can.

Question - Why do you want to see all assignments for more than 100 named resources at a single glance?  If you look at only 100 named resources over two months viewed by week, and an average of 4 assignments per month, that is a large volume of data (9 columns and 500 rows minimum.  More depending on how you group the data).

Depending on the question you are trying to answer, you may be better served by starting with the dashboards in RMW,  using focused cards in RMW, or the summarized data provided by Capacity Planning in SPW.

Regards,

Chris

My team also came across this limit of 100 resources, did anybody here receive an answer on whether it's possible to modify it? Thanks!
