SPM Resource Assignments & Group Membership changes

How do you deal with group membership changes in relation to resource assignments?

My org is leverages resource management heavily.  We've got dozens of active demands & projects, hundreds of groups and dozens of resource plans.  We're preparing to adopting resource assignments.

One of the issues we've had to engineer a solution for involves re-casting resource plans every time someone is added to or removed from a group.  The current solution works at scale for resource plans but not for resource assignments.

It seems that ServiceNow's solution for resource plans is to manually cancel & recreate resource plans.   In my org group members change very frequently (25-50/day) this equates to dozens (& dozens) of resource plans that need to be re-cast.

Before we undertake the re-engineering of our automated re-cast solution, I'm compelled to ask what my SPM colleagues are doing about this.

Your candid comments are greatly appreciated.

I strongly urge ServiceNow to schedule "Office Hours for SPM" on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, similar to the SAMP Office Hours that I've attended.  The technicians that facilitate and promote ServiceNow need authoritative guidance on the real world scenarios that we encounter.

The transition to the current (Zurich & >) Resource Management requires a lot of planning and has  manual overhead that will prove to be very, very challenging to org's that rely heavily on Resource Management.

Please ServiceNow, help out your certified SPM technicians.... "Office Hours for SPM".  Count me in!

Hello Mike,

The topic of groups, group resource assignments, easier editing of group RA's, how to address existing group RA's when a member is added or leaves, and a better model to present capacity when people can be members of multiple groups (e.g., headcount who can do a thing v capacity across groups based on a split of  where people have historically spent their time) is a planned focus point for h1 2027.

As there is no single best practice, we will need a thoughtful approach that allows different behaviours.  Not just a pathed modal, but Ideally something that can handled conversationally.

If you are not already a member of the DPP for resource assignments, I invite you to join.
