Hello everyone,
I'm looking for guidance on how to go about installing SPM in Yokohama Dev instance, no SB available. Client has purchased the pro license. Is it possible to do the install in a PDI? If so, what is the sequence of installation? SN Docs for SPM calls for Portfolio Planning plugin install, then Strategic Planning plugin. What should be done first? Please help. TIA

Hi Buddy,
You won’t be able to properly install or test SPM Pro in a standard PDI. PDIs don’t support paid entitlements, so even if you manage to activate some plugins, key SPM Pro features will be missing or locked. There isn’t a supported way to simulate SPM Pro in a PDI.
Since the client has already purchased SPM Pro, the install should be done in the customer DEV instance (or another sub-prod instance) after ServiceNow applies the SPM Pro entitlement.
Once the license is active, the installation order in the docs is correct:
Portfolio Planning – this is the foundation and must be installed first.
Strategic Planning – depends on Portfolio Planning and won’t work correctly without it.
After those are installed, you can optionally enable other SPM components (Demand, Resource, Financial Planning, etc.) depending on what the client bought.
One thing to keep in mind: after plugin installation, SPM won’t look “ready” right away. You still need to assign roles and complete some basic setup (planning entities, calendars, cadence). Until that’s done, it can look like the install didn’t work even though it did.
So, in short:
PDI → not suitable for SPM Pro
Customer DEV with license → correct place
Portfolio Planning first, Strategic Planning second
That should get you on the right path.

Obviously follow the docs for the correct order. In addition to the documentation, I would also recommend completing 2 ServiceNow University courses:
1) Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) Fundamentals
2) Strategic Portfolio Management (SPM) Implementation
