We have setup a task with an external dependency and we want to visualize it at the program level on a gantt chart.  Looking for direction.  Thank you.

In ServiceNow PPM (Project Portfolio Management), visualizing tasks with external dependencies on a Gantt chart can help you to better understand the relationship between tasks and the overall project timeline. To visualize tasks with external dependencies at the program level, follow these steps:

  1. Access your ServiceNow instance.
  2. Navigate to the program you want to visualize by going to "Project > Programs" and selecting the desired program from the list.
  3. Once you are on the program record, click on the "Related Links" tab and select "Open Program Workbench."
  4. In the Program Workbench, you will see a Gantt chart on the right side of the screen. By default, it displays the projects and their associated tasks within the selected program.
  5. To visualize external dependencies, you will first need to ensure that they are properly set up in the task records. For each task with an external dependency, open the task record and navigate to the "Dependencies" related list. Add the dependent task by clicking "New" and filling in the necessary details, such as the dependency type (Finish-to-Start, Start-to-Start, etc.) and the lag time.
  6. Once the dependencies are set up, they should be visible on the Gantt chart in the Program Workbench. You will see a dependency line connecting the dependent tasks, which can help you understand the relationship between them.

If the external dependencies are not immediately visible, you might need to adjust the Gantt chart settings:

  1. In the Program Workbench, locate the gear icon on the upper right corner of the Gantt chart.
  2. Click on the gear icon to open the "Gantt Settings" menu.
  3. Under the "Display Options" section, ensure that "Dependencies" is checked. This will enable the visualization of dependency lines on the Gantt chart.
  4. Apply the settings by clicking "OK."

Thanks for this - its really useful. Can the inbound / outbound pop up be pulled into a report to visualise all program dependencies at a glance?

In a sprint view, we have stories it is possible to visualize on a gantt chart?

Regarding this step -

  1. In the Program Workbench, locate the gear icon on the upper right corner of the Gantt chart.

There is no gear icon displaying, only a print icon.
