I have experience in Manual Testing and IDAM Support, using ServiceNow as a ticketing tool. After a 3-year career gap, I’m looking to restart my career in ServiceNow. I’m currently learning AI Support Specialist course from servicenow university. Is my background suitable for a ServiceNow role, and what skills should I focus on and which role should I focus? You can definitely get back into the field. The only thing you need is hard work, dedication, and consistency.
I would suggest starting fresh and revising the concepts you have learned over the last three years, especially because there have been quite a few changes in SN. Start by going through the CSA course to refresh your fundamentals and build your knowledge. Once you are comfortable with that, you can gradually move on to the next level.
You can also spend some time learning scripting/coding, as it will be useful and help you expand your opportunities. Alternatively, you can focus on ATF (Automated Test Framework), which is an important part of ServiceNow testing. There are also ATF courses available on Now Learning.
Take it step by step, and I’m sure you can get back up to speed.

You can start fresh with this field, as ServiceNow is always a demanding and continuously evolving area. Please invest sufficient time in learning, revising, and building a strong understanding of the concepts through hands-on practice in PDI.
I would recommend following this learning path:
- Start with CSA – ServiceNow Fundamentals, followed by CAD – Application Development.
- Recap the ITSM module to strengthen your fundamentals.
- After that, explore ATF (Automated Test Framework), which is primarily used for testing.
- Gradually explore other modules such as HRSD, CSM, ITOM, and IRM.
Along with the modules, please explore key ServiceNow platform features such as:
- Virtual Agent
- Platform Analytics
- Service Portal
You can also start exploring the AI capabilities in ServiceNow, such as Now Assist and AI Agents. ServiceNow University is a good place to begin your learning journey.
Take your time, focus on understanding the concepts, and practice as much as possible in your PDI. Building strong fundamentals will help you progress confidently in this field.
