CSA Exam

What kind of questions are asked in the CSA exam? Are there more scenario-based questions? Also, one of my friends had given the CSA exam about a year ago, she said that there was section-wise cutoff. When I checked the 'Review your exam results (Mainline)', there was no mention of section-wise cutoff. Can I get a clarity on this?

Hi @Faisal_CG

Tips for the CSA Exam (Certified System Administrator)

CSA is the first and foundational exam in your ServiceNow journey. Here are some tips to help you prepare effectively:

Study the training material thoroughly – Go through it line by line, word by word, at least 2–3 times.

Practice the labs multiple times – Do each lab 3–4 times. Don’t just complete them; carefully read and understand the instructions as well.

Follow the official eBook – Review it thoroughly at least 2–3 times to reinforce your understanding.

Consider supplementary courses – Some candidates have found Udemy courses helpful for additional practice and clarity.

Watch my experience video – I’ve shared my own preparation journey and tips here:

Good luck on your CSA journey!

Hello @Faisal_CG

The CSA (Certified System Administrator) exam mostly contains multiple-choice questions, and a good portion of them are scenario-based.
However, the scenarios are short and simple, not long case studies.

You can expect three types of questions:

  1. Direct knowledge questions – basic concepts like tables, forms, roles, update sets, etc.
  2. Platform functionality questions – client vs server scripts, CMDB basics, catalog items, notifications.
  3. Short scenario questions – asking which script to use, what happens when a table extends another, how data imports work, etc.

Overall, the exam is not very difficult. If you understand the core platform features, you can clear it easily.

Hello @Faisal_CG ,

I gave the CSA long back. They will ask 3 4scenario based questions where level is easy and most of the questions will ask based on ServiceNow fundamentals and basic concepts of ServiceNow.

Hi @Faisal_CG

Can you explain what you mean by 'section-wise cutoff'?

The exam blueprint is virtual reading before you take the exam. It sets out how the exam is divided into different topics areas, ant the percentage of questions you can expect for each topic.

If you're unfortunate and fail, you'll get a breakdown of your results by section. This is. Valuable for understanding where you need to focus your study efforts for the re-sit.

'What kind of questions are asked in the CSA exam?'

One (cynical) answer to this: Google 'ServiceNow CSA exam dumps' and you'll get a pretty good idea.

Don't rely on dumps, however. The answers are often wrong. And you won't do your career any favours in the long run by bluffing your way through the CSA.

As you mentioned about the topic areas, those are sections. One of my friends said that if we get <70% in any of these sections, we will fail.
