CSA prep: Scenario‑type questions & best practice tips for a new System Administrator

Hi Community,
I’m new to ServiceNow and come from a Telecom domain background.  I’ve started the Certified System Administrator (CSA) path and I’m working through ServiceNow Administration Fundamentals on Now Learning.

I’d appreciate guidance to strengthen my scenario‑based readiness.

Are most CSA questions framed around small scenarios? Any patterns you noticed (multi‑select tricks, common distractors) and reliable practice approaches?

My goal is to learn the platform well and grow into an admin role where I can accelerate operations for telecom services. Pointers to solid resources, lab ideas, and community threads are very welcome. Thanks in advance!

@jyothave Hi there and Welcome! For the CSA exam, The best way to get ready is to grab a Personal Developer Instance (PDI) and actually try out what you learn in the Fundamentals course. Don’t just click around, focus on understanding tables, client scripts, UI policies, ACLs, business rules and workflows. Knowing why things work makes the exam way easier. You’ll do great if you practice hands-on and really get the concepts.

Good luck!

Hi @miftikhar20

Thank you for sharing your insights! Apart from the ServiceNow Administrator Fundamentals course and the eBook, are there any additional resources, exercises, or real-world use cases that I can practice?

I’m currently not working on ServiceNow but learning it to switch platforms. It would be great to get suggestions on:

  • Practical use cases to build hands-on experience
  • Any available practice material or exercises that can help reinforce concepts

Your recommendations would be really helpful as I work toward becoming proficient in ServiceNow.

Hi @jyothave

Tips for the CSA Exam (Certified System Administrator)

CSA is the first and foundational exam in your ServiceNow journey. Here are some tips to help you prepare effectively:

  • Study the training material thoroughly – Go through it line by line, word by word, at least 2–3 times.

  • Practice the labs multiple times – Do each lab 3–4 times. Don’t just complete them; carefully read and understand the instructions as well.

  • Follow the official eBook – Review it thoroughly at least 2–3 times to reinforce your understanding.

  • Consider supplementary courses – Some candidates have found Udemy courses helpful for additional practice and clarity.

  • Watch my experience video – I’ve shared my own preparation journey and tips here:

Good luck on your CSA journey!
