Our knowledge manager and his team regularly and specifically add non-breaking spaces to their content when they need specific formatting and have noticed time and time again that upon saving after using the editor to modify the content the non-breaking spaces are removed and replaced with a regular space.
I don't think I would want to disable the updating of code entirely, but is it possible to limit it in these specific situations, even if it is just limiting it to not run on the knowledge tables or fields at all?

not possible.
If my response helped please mark it correct and close the thread so that it benefits future readers.

Just had a look at wysiwyg KB articles in Xanadu and they are retaining " " non-breaking spaces represented in HTML, trying to use keyboard shortcuts to put in non-breaking spaces will fail to encode.
