ServiceNow Remote Instance Spoke question

I'm testing out the Remote Instance Spoke in a PDI at the moment to see if it would be usable in our own instances.
Our scenario is that we want users to be able to use our Production portal to request being added to groups in a sub-Prod instance (with appropriate approval etc).
I have the plugin installed and configured and it seems to work pretty well - I can query the remote tables and pull data back ok but I'm stuck when attempting to create a record on the remote sys_user_grmember table. In the spoke action, choosing this table only gives me an option of selecting tags so I can't add a user/group to create the record.
Has anyone run into something like this and/or have any suggestions on a resolution? at the moment, the account in the remote instance has the admin role so as far as I can tell, it shouldn't be a permissions things but open to suggestions.
