Why Approval For is empty?

Hello all,

In the Approvals, when I check for a KB article the Configuration Item column is showing empty.

But when I open the KB article and check, the Configuration Item field is filled with some CI but it is not showing in the list view of approvals.

I came to know that, the Approval For column should be filled with the record and hence it's Configuration item will be shown,

But my question is why Approval For is showing empty?

Kindly help.

Hi @Lucky1

column "Approving" is the leading information. "Approval for" is just a workaround for records which are from child tables of task. As the knowledge article table is not a child of task no reference can be stored there. So everything works as intended/designed.

Hello Maik,

So you mean to say, the Approval For field will be populated with task number if and if only if it is child if Task table?

Actually, in the list view of approvals able, I have brought Configuration item field to see the CI selected for the KB article. by configuring the list view and using approval_for.cmdb_ci to the list view.

So, is there any chance to re-work on this?

Lucky

Hi @Lucky1

yes, I see you understood. And to answer your question: you can extend the table and functionality as per your requirement. However, this is more than just a one-liner and therefore I'm not able to provide the complete solution.

Adding to point mentioned by Maik

knowledge table is not extending task so information for it will be stored in Approving field which is a document_id field which can hold info of any table in ServiceNow
