is it mandatory to complete servicenow training in order to appear for servicenow system admin certification?

I would want to appear for Servicenow system admin certification and hence would like to know if it is mandatory to formally get trained before appearing for the exam. Does this certification program validates if you are trained prior to the exam?

There is a free version of the ServiceNow Fundamentals, my ServiceNow contact told me that you can take the free self-paced ServiceNow Fundamentals and still be sent voucher codes. 

Has anyone had this experience? I just want to make sure they are right before I inform my team.
