I am a new user taking the first course on ServiceNow platform. For first simulation the tasks are as follows:
Task Instructions:
1. | Navigate to the User Menu (select the System Administrator avatar in the top right corner). |
2. | Select Impersonate user. |
3. | Locate and select Platform User [platform.user]. |
4. | Complete the impersonation request by selecting the Impersonate user button. |
5. | Select and pin the 'All' menu so it is always present as you walk through tasks. (Important Tip: If you collapse your browser window or modify its sizing, the All menu may be hidden. Simply expand the browser for the pinned All menu to display again.) |
6. | Navigate to Self-Service > Knowledge, notice there is only one article. |
7. | Favorite the Knowledge module in order to easily locate it again in the future. |
8. | Ask yourself: what applications are available to you as the Platform User? |
I am getting the following error when I try to validate my task
"The validation has run into an error, please ensure that the instance is running and that you have set up the task exactly as instructed.
If you do feel there is a bug, your instance is running and you have double checked the task instructions, then you can raise a case here"
Pictures for reference:
What am I doing wrong and how do I fix it? Thanks in advance.

Hi @aaronpenney
It looks like you have done everything correctly, so it's likely a technical problem with the instance, which can happen on rare occasions.
Try terminating the instance, requesting a new one, and trying the exercise again.

Hi Simon,
I had the same issue with the tool validating the results of the actions on the Now platform.
I terminated the instance twice now, and I am getting the following error message:
I was not able to impersonate a Platform user since it was not available, but I impersonated password.user.
Could this be the culprit of the error?
Are you able to help me? I don't want to run out of instances if I keep starting and terminating and they all have the same result.
I follow all the instructions
Task Description: Pin the 'All' menu and create a favorite for Self-Service > Knowledge.
PLEASE NOTE: This simulator will automatically log you in as the System Administrator. The first thing you'll be asked to do in this lab is to impersonate Platform User. This is not a step you will perform in your organization's instance, just here in this course.
6. | Navigate to Self-Service > Knowledge, explore the homepage. |
7. | Favorite the Knowledge module in order to easily locate it again in the future. |
8. | Ask yourself: what applications are available to you as the Platform User? |
Thank you!!!

Hi @IrinaV
Yes, you need to impersonate 'Platform User' (not 'Password User').
And it should be an option you can surface through a search, as per this screenshot:

Hi Simon,
Thank you for your responses - I started off with the same issue as Aaron, but even after terminating the first instance and requesting a new one, I remain unable to find a platform user to impersonate:
shall I keep terminating/opening new instances? This happened already twice - any advice is greatly appreciated.
