Hey ya'll - glad to be here. I work for Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport, TN. We implemented ServiceNow one year ago, and keep expanding our use of the platform. In Software Asset Management I want to fully understand the data model for an effective implementation, and how to get the most value from our SACM investments.

Does ServiceNow provide a specific package to address the Request portion of the Software Asset lifecycle or is it expected that teams will extend Service Catalog to fulfill that effort?

Typically it would be the SAM Manager. If your organization has SAM analysts, that work may be their responsibility.

Does SAM Pro (Jakarta and later) depend on SAM Foundation tables & features ?
If we are going to implement SAM Pro, we have nothing to do with SAMF tables/features ?

You do not need to activate SAM Foundations, if you are spinning up SAM Pro. The appropriate tables will be installed during the SAM pro application activation.

Question - Why are we giving Knowledge Admin to a SAM Manager? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to add them as a Knowledge Manager to a specific Knowledge Base?

We currently use Flexera's normalization and will be going to SAM pro. What is the recommendation for what to do with the 1.5+ million discovery models they created in our instance?

You have a few choices. Some customers choose to update the Felxera created models to match the model format in SAM Pro. Others remove them after creating the new models they plan on tracking. Depends on the number of resources in your environment to maintain that data. Most important is to have a plan to migrate models.

Is relationship between SAM Pro and ILMT only that SAM Pro imports data from ILMT ?
Does organizations running SAM Pro still have to maintain ILMT up to date ? (maybe yes)

SAM Pro is utilizing the data via the ILMT integration to calculate complaince positions for IBM. An organizaiton will still need to maintain the ILMT product in the environment.

why would you choose to use or not use an asset tag number?

In SAM Foundations, how do you manage Publisher Part Numbers?

- Mark as Read

Some organizations see asset tags as something that need a physical asset to attach to. Since software entitlements are not a physical document in some cases they choose not to use an asset tag. Asset tag numbering can be automated to auto number if you want to have one for identification purposes.

In situations where you have more than one team procuring software licenses (perhaps because this is managed by the local cost center).
If we assume that the teams procuring licenses are not scoped to possess the sam_admin or sam_user role, to help the various Procurement teams get out of spreadsheets and avoid missing providing data, has thought been given to how the relevant intake information can be provided by those teams outside of an spreadsheet?

Some customers choose to have an catalog item to bring in the entitlement information from different procurement groups. Additionally, you could provide them with the import template and have them populate that with the required information and use that to import entitlements that way.
