Hi everyone, hope you are all good.
I am a bit confused about the exam to take to became a Support Specialist.
I am on the path to my career journey to became a Support Specialist. I have already finished 2 modules, ''Associate Support Specialist'', and ''Practitioner Support Specialis''. So, now on the Practitioner Support module is asking me to place the CSA exam (which I understand is to became a System Administrator, right?) and of course I need to pass to gain my certification.
My doubt is; CSA exam is to became an Administrator, correct? If I pass on CSA exam will I be authomaticaly a System Administrator and Support Specialist? or it would have a separated exam to became a Support Specialist only?
If anyone could clarify this exams part for me I would appreciate it.
All the best
Fabio

Hi @FabioAlexaS
No worries, mate. Let me try to share my thoughts. I'm a ServiceNow trainer and always happy to share insights.
CSA (Certified System Administrator) is a foundational course. By taking this course, you'll gain a clear understanding of the platform, its terminology, key concepts, and the overall impact of ServiceNow. These fundamentals are essential for anyone working with the platform—whether as a developer, support specialist, or in OCM roles. So without a doubt, CSA is a must-have certification to begin your journey.
Now, the Support Specialist role is more about how you can use the ServiceNow platform to serve your customers effectively. Taking the CSA doesn’t automatically make you a Support Specialist—but it puts you on the right path toward becoming one.
Think of it like this: taking a baking class doesn’t instantly make you a master baker—it means you’ve started your journey and are building the skills. Similarly, certifications and training sessions help you become the best in your chosen role.
Hope that helps clear up any confusion!

Hi Dr. Atul,
Thank you very much for the info, it helps a lot. I believe I am then in the right path. Now is just to practice more using the univesity instances to do the labs and such, put the hands-on activities until I feel I am confortable enough to sit for the exam.
In the meantime, who knows, maybe I can find a job as technical support to help with the process. 😊
Regards,
Fabio
