Mid Server Configuration Approach

Hello Experts,

We have a requirement to upgrade the midserver (From Windows 2012 to 2022) .Now once the required configuration and patching are done by the Wintel team, The status will show as up in the midserver status in Service-now. My questions are listed below for reference:

Q1-/ How the traffic will be routed in Servicenow when more than one midservers are up and running in Servicenow? Will Servicenow consider the latest upgraded one or traffic will be routed via load balancer mode?

Q2-/ At what point exactly the older midserver will made down and the latest one will be automatically go up to allow all the traffics to pass through it?

Q3-/Any best practice method or documents to be followed?

Hi,

The answer to these will change depending on what you're using the MID server for. Can you share what capabilities you have setup? e.g, Discovery, LDAP, IntegrationHub, Event Management.

HI Kieren,

Thanks for your input. I will say its for all and the mid server upgrade was done from version(2012) to 2022.

Q1-/ How the traffic will be routed in Servicenow when more than one midservers are up and running in Servicenow? Will Servicenow consider the latest upgraded one or traffic will be routed via load balancer mode?

It'll depend on the configuration of where you're using a MID server. Discovery will select the 'best fit' if the schedule is configured to do so. If the discovery schedule has a specific MID selected and that MID server isn't part of a load balancing group, then requests will be queued until the MID is back online.

Q2-/ At what point exactly the older midserver will made down and the latest one will be automatically go up to allow all the traffics to pass through it?

Are you doing an in place upgrade? Or configuring a new server host, and installing a new MID server? If you're doing in an in-place upgrade, then the same MID server record in SN will exist and will simply change status. If you're setting up a new host, then you should configure new MID server credentials to avoid any lock-out issues. MID server credentials shouldn't be shared/re-used.
