Upgrade timing for end of life versions

When a version is end of life due to a new family release, how long after the new family is released do we have to upgrade our instances? The end of life communication is fairly vague and states the following: "In September, when we deliver the Now Platform Paris release, we will end support for the Now Platform New York release family." Is there a certain amount of time we have after Paris is released to move off of New York?

Note: This question also applies to other family releases as well, not just New York to Paris.

In the Paris upgrade webinar there was a slide that indicated there is an 8 week window to upgrade for companies that are N-2 when a new release moves to GA.

I got changes created by ServiceNow to upgrade to Orlando patch 5 (we are currently on New York patch 9) and they scheduled it for the second half of October. The notification says we can reschedule but I'm wondering how far can we reschedule, does anybody know? I asked that question on the change ticket pending response.

There is also a note that I don't quite understand:

"We will upgrade your instances shortly after the Now Platform Paris release in September 2020. Right now the table is populated with Orlando Patch 5, but when Paris becomes available, we’ll update the target version to Paris."

Does it mean we must upgrade to Paris or can we upgrade to Orlando and stay on it until it's EOL?

Thanks,

Marta

We're in the same boat. I plan on upgrading once and going right to Paris after a patch or two. Not worth it to upgrade twice. I'm sure they will allow some leeway knowing that you'll go right to Paris.

Hi,

Typically Service Now will require you to patch on your current version on a monthly basis . For example ,If you are on New York Patch 9 and Patch 10 is released , automated change requests will be created to patch within that month unless you request an extension for a short period of time i.e. till the next month if you have a valid reason.

For Family upgrades, typically your instance will need to be N-1 or maybe N-2 in order to remain in Support.

Thanks,

Peter
