Hi all, one of our higher education universities in Asia would like to seek for any reference who has done the custom URL <instance>.yourdomain.edu instead of <instance>.service-now.com. The goal of the university is to release the service to their students, they would like to see if any higher education folks are doing the same and how? Appreciate any feedback and ideas?

Dear Kim,

Check this KB : ServiceNow KB: Using a Custom URL with ServiceNow Instances (KB0521186)

As mentioned in the KB,   to accomplish this, the customer must procure and configure a web or proxy architecture to answer the requests for https://<instance>.yourdomain.edu and proxy those requests to the URL provided by ServiceNow (https://<instance>.service-now.com).

Thank You, it is helpful.

We have chosen to NOT pursue this, largely because of a similar experience with our Google implementation. By giving campus a local "familiar" URL, we were giving them false illusions about the service itself. When people went to "gmail.ncsu.edu", we could do a lot of customization and branding, but that meant work on our end -- work we'd hoped to take away by going to a hosted service. By starting the process using the vendor-supplied services, we molded the service as an offsite service, and expectations were managed appropriately. It worked well for Google, and so we've not looked back for ServiceNow or any other service.

Hope this helps!

Thanks Christopher. We will share your experience with our customer, they are very willing to learn from other Higher Edu.
