I have done it past couple of times, currently also we are not using SN discovery. Using Altris as datasource for computer system classes. We also do some excel loads, data comes from data center/infra teams.
In past I have also populated SN CMDB using BMC Remedy CMDB which was getting data from Marimba & ADDM. SCCM is also something which I have used as a data source to populate SN CMDB.

We are currently using BDNA / SCCM to populate our CMDB. However, we will soon be using Discovery to provide more information to the CMDB.
Will you being using the event management system within ServiceNow with your CMDB? Or, what is the use case for it?
Thanks!

Greetings
We are just rolling out ServiceNow with CMDB and asset planned but without discovery. The main reason is that we will be relying on other configuration tools to supply data eg SCOM LANDESK SCCM Nagios etc.
We have had an introduction to BDNA and it looks very interesting. Could you elaborate what the reasons are for switching to include discovery module.
Regards
Julian.

At University of Southampton we implemented by lifting our (mostly manually populated) CMDB from our previous system. Since then it has still been mostly manually managed.
We had a project to implement Discovery but this hasn't progressed due to one reason or another. In the meantime though we've recently interfaced with SCCM to provide a much more up to date view of our desktop estate and this has been quite successful.
