Can Discovery identify unknown web application URLs?

Customer requirement: Discover web-based applications without prior knowledge of the URLs or application names.

Questions:

  1. Can ServiceNow Discovery autonomously discover unknown web application URLs (without known URLs or defined IP ranges as starting points)?
  2. Do we have any OOB solution for this?
  3. If not OOB, any recommended workarounds or alternative approaches?

Context:

  • Customer needs application inventory reconciliation
  • They don't have a complete list of web applications in their environment
  • Already aware that Service Mapping requires known URL entry points

ServiceNow Discovery works on a seed-based model, meaning it always needs a starting point:

  • IP ranges
  • Credentials
  • Known infrastructure

It does not Crawl the web like a search engine, Guess URLs and  Discover apps without any entry point so if there are no IP ranges and no URLs, Discovery has nothing to start with. As per my knowledge, no out-of-the-box solution exists in ServiceNow for blind web app discovery.

If apps are in cloud:   AWS / Azure / GCP inventories, then probably Service Graph Connectors can be used to bring:

  • App services
  • Load balancers
  • Endpoints
