It usually points to one of a few common problems related to validation, Business Rules, or Client Scripts.
1)Check for Client Scripts
Right-click on the reference field label and select Configure > Client Scripts.
Review all active onChange Client Scripts for that table and field.
2)Check for Business Rules
A Business Rule running before the record is saved might be incorrectly processing the field value.
3)Check the Field Reference and Dictionary
Right-click the field label and select Configure Dictionary.
Review the Reference Qualifier field.
Temporarily remove the Reference Qualifier to see if the issue disappears. If it does, the qualifier logic is faulty and is not passing the selected user's criteria.
4)Check the Display Value
Go to the sys_user table and find the user you were trying to select.
Ensure they have valid values in their User ID and Name fields.
