Request (RITM) in portal only can be approved if mandatory field is not empty

Hello,
I have a requirement in one specific form, there is a hidden field variable for the user when he submit the form, as soon as this form is submitted, that field become mandatory and available, that part is working fine.
When it goes for the approval step, the approver must not be able to approve it if that field is empty, because the approver must select the assignment group on that field and the flow uses that field to assign the TASK to the specified group.
Right now, the approver is able to approve even the field is set as mandatory
Any suggestions on how to do this? client script?
