Restricting HRSD ESC Features to HRSD Groups – Best Practice Guidance Needed

Hello Expert ,

We are implementing HRSD in Employee Center (ESC) and want to ensure that all HRSD-related functionalities are accessible only to users who belong to specific HRSD groups as part of pilot release.

Currently, our requirements are:

  • HRSD Taxonomy should be visible and accessible only to users who belong to a HRSD pilot group

  • “My Case” should be visible and accessible only to users with a HRSD pilot group.

  • HRSD Catalog Items and Record Producers should be visible and accessible only to users of HRSD pilot group.

  • This access control pattern needs to be consistently extended across all HRSD related ESC functionalities after pilot go live phase.

We would like to understand the recommended / best-practice approach to implement this, specifically:

  • Should this be handled primarily via User Criteria or Group-based access?

    Thanks in advance.

Hi @mehtaaaksha ,

Best-practice approach is to use User Criteria. Why because User criteria ensures a consistent access control pattern without having to re-configure individual items or topics i.e you simply update one User Criteria record rather than number of Catalog Items.

Also, ServiceNow's engine is optimized for User Criteria evaluations at the portal level.

If this helped to answer your query, please mark it helpful & accept the solution.
Thanks!
