Has anyone integrated their ServiceNow instance with Jira?   If you are willing to share your experience I would be grateful.

Thanks,

Larry

Hi Gabor,

Thanks for reaching out to me. We have decided to postpone the project due

to a license shortage. Thanks again for following up with me.

Hi Larry and others,

There are several things you need to think through when integrating ServiceNow and Jira, as both these systems are different in their behavior and processes. Some key questions to think about are:

  1. What elements are you looking to integrate?
  2. Is it uni-directional or bi-directional?
  3. Conflict resolution in case of a bi-directional implementation.
  4. Behavioral mismatches between the systems.

Behavioral mismatches are more critical when the integrated systems become operational, so it pays off (or saves a lot of time and money) if this part is properly implemented.

Some critical issues we have seen from our experience:
#1: ServiceNow does not have status transition which developers use extensively in Jira.

Solution: Integration should automatically deal with such scenario so that there are no failures while synchronization.
#2: Model mismatch between Jira and ServiceNow when it comes to editing a closed issue.

Solution: Depending on the business needs, you need to change the behavior in one of the systems and keep it consistent.
#3: Different categories of comments in ServiceNow (Private and Public).

Solution: Depending on the business needs, you need to decide whether all the comments in Jira are Public or Private in ServiceNow.

We use these integrations internally at OpsHub. We have also helped multiple customers integrate ServiceNow and Jira specifically.

We would love to discuss your use case and provide more detail on this specific integration. Feel free to reach out to us here(http://www.opshub.com/contactus).

Thanks,
