Hi, @cdesousan .
Best practices require both guidelines that citizen developers can easily understand and dedicated coaching. This shouldn't be limited to simple study sessions; you need to establish a specialized team responsible for providing continuous information and support.
If your citizen development instance is close to Out-of-the-Box (OTB) standards, consider utilizing NowLearning for coaching. However, if you are providing a highly customized environment that deviates from OTB, NowLearning may not be suitable. In that case, you must create custom educational content that explains the specifics of your environment and your implementation methods.
To drive citizen developers' goals and motivation, internal development competitions are highly effective. You can verify if private development is possible outside of work by utilizing Personal Developer Instances (PDIs). By establishing categories such as "Best Idea" or "Best Adherence to Citizen Development Standards," winners can be officially certified as new, qualified citizen developers.
While ServiceNow provides native features specifically for citizen development, you must carefully weigh the cost of education against the cost of operational maintenance. If you choose to prioritize education, the benefits include:
- Citizen developers can eventually transition to understanding OTB features via NowLearning.
- This creates a clear career path, allowing them to choose between becoming a Low-Code Developer or joining the Coaching Team.
Ultimately, for citizen development to take root and succeed, it is essential to provide "future potential"—giving developers a roadmap for growth and advancement beyond their initial role.
Regards.
