Denisha Lias is an Associate Technical Consultant at AHEAD. She’s the first person in her family to graduate from college, completing her Master of Economics. However, she knew economics wasn’t her passion, so she started to look for other opportunities. She found her calling when she attended a , setting her on the path to a rewarding career in the ServiceNow ecosystem. Now Denisha has a job that’s a perfect fit—one that lets her work with the technology she loves while growing her business skills. And she has even bigger plans for the future as she pursues her ambition to become a ServiceNow Certified Master Architect, the pinnacle of ServiceNow technical achievement.

Taking a chance on tech in the ServiceNow ecosystem
Denisha is the first person in her family to graduate from college, completing her Master of Economics in 2022. However, while she found economics interesting, it wasn’t her passion. So, she started to look for other opportunities, knowing that changing careers could be a major challenge. Denisha struck gold when she saw an email from HBCUConnect, the largest online community dedicated to historically black colleges. That’s how she found out about the RiseUp with ServiceNow program, which helps people from non-traditional backgrounds start fulfilling careers in the ServiceNow ecosystem. Intrigued by the idea of a dynamic tech career, Denisha signed up for the 16-week bootcamp.
Finding strength in support and community
According to Denisha, the bootcamp was both intensive and challenging. But she says it was an incredibly supportive environment, and she raves about getting to exchange ideas with other students. And when she couldn’t find the answers she needed, she turned to the ServiceNow Community, where she found experienced, like-minded people who were always ready to help. Denisha explains that ServiceNow gives people so many great resources—not just the Community, but also a huge array of training courses in ServiceNow University, and step-by-step guides on ServiceNow docs.
Building skills, confidence - and a future in tech
Today, Denisha has an exciting and rewarding position as an Associate Technical Consultant at AHEAD, a role that combines technical consulting with business analysis. That’s a perfect fit for Denisha, since she really enjoys the technical aspects but also wants to grow her skills on the business side. Along the way, she’s become a Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS). Now, she’s working on her Certified Application Developer (CAD) qualification and has ambitions to become a Certified Master Architect (CMA).
Starting a new career in the ServiceNow ecosystem isn’t easy, Denisha admits—it takes determination and hard work. But for those willing to take the leap, she says, the rewards are life changing. What stood out was ServiceNow Community, where she built relationships, found answers, and gained the confidence to succeed. For Denisha, the journey wasn’t just about building a career—it was about finding her passion.
