Jerry Wong grew up helping out at his parent's restaurant, where he was inspired by his family's hard work and values. He says that watching his mum and dad work tirelessly gave him a strong work ethic and a mindset of perseverance. These early experiences - along with a fascination with technology - shaped his approach to learning and serve him well every day as a ServiceNow Product Owner at a leading UK university. Not only is he committed to personal growth and the success of his team, but he's also focused on empowering other people in the ServiceNow ecosystem by sharing his knowledge and being involved in the community. That's why he's recently been named a ServiceNow MVP.

A commitment to hard work and a passion for technology

Jerry grew up in the UK, where he discovered early on his passion for technology. Helping out at his parent's restaurant, he was also inspired by their hard work, adaptability, and commitment to customer service value—something that has shaped his own approach to his career. Jerry is also a devoted husband and parent, working hard to give his family a bright future, just as his parents did for him.

ServiceNow opened Jerry's eyes

After graduating from university with a bachelor's degree in multimedia computing, Jerry worked in a number of IT service desk roles, including as a service desk analyst and service desk manager. It was during his time as a service desk manager that Jerry first encountered ServiceNow. He was a key stakeholder in a project to replace an existing ITSM tool with ServiceNow, and when he saw the platform's capabilities, it immediately sparked his interest. He also started to get connected with the ServiceNow community, getting involved in his local ServiceNow User Group and developer meetups.

Certification boosted Jerry's confidence and opened doors

Jerry set about learning more about the platform, becoming a ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA). Jerry enthuses about becoming a CSA, saying that getting certified validated his knowledge and opened doors for career growth. Not only did it help him build his credibility, but it also boosted his ability to take on more complex projects. He also stresses the importance of getting involved in the ServiceNow community and learning from like-minded people who are happy to share their knowledge and experience.

The power of community

Jerry says that becoming part of the ServiceNow ecosystem has transformed his career. "I've been able to meet fantastic people, share knowledge, and build relationships. It's given me the confidence to lead, and I'm incredibly grateful. I've also had the opportunity to host events and mentor people, which is deeply rewarding when you see how helping other people makes such a difference to their lives and careers."

When asked what advice he would offer other people starting out on their ServiceNow careers, Jerry says, "Take every opportunity to learn. Ask questions and be curious. Remember you're not alone. There are so many great ServiceNow resources out there to help you. I get involved in the community - it's an incredibly rewarding experience."
