A devoted soldier seeking purpose and family balance

After a decade of service in the U.S. Army, Josh recently left active duty. During those ten years, he spent time in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria supporting various Special Operations Forces missions, finishing his military career as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Technician.

While Josh was committed to the Army, he was also never home. As a devoted family man, he wanted to spend more time with his wife and three children. So, as the time approached for him to leave the Army, he looked for a new career opportunity that would challenge him while letting him stay close to home.

From zero tech background to a platform that fit just right

Josh reached out to Chris, an Army brother who had recently been through ServiceNow training as part of the Department of Defense’s Skillbridge initiative. Chris gave Josh an overview of the ServiceNow platform and connected him with the ServiceNow training program manager. For Josh, ServiceNow was exactly what he wanted, offering a challenging and rewarding career while giving him time to spend with his family. Although Josh had almost no IT experience—his IT skills were limited to unplugging and re-plugging devices—he was confident that he could succeed and signed up for the training program.

Most ServiceNow certifications in the program's history

When Josh started the training program, his determination kicked into overdrive. He says he’s incredibly competitive, which is why he decided to set the record for the most ServiceNow certifications by a graduate of the training program. And he surpassed even his own high expectations.  By the time he finished the program, Josh had achieved an unprecedented number of certifications—including Certified System Administrator (CSA), Certified Application Developer (CAD), and Certified Implementation Specialist (CIS)—an extraordinary feat in such a short time.

A whole new life - at home, and at work

Those certifications paid off. After graduating, he quickly secured a position as a ServiceNow Engineer/Cloud Engineer at GlideFast Consulting. Josh enthuses that ServiceNow changed his and his family’s life. He says that you don’t often get the opportunity to start a completely new career, but ServiceNow gave him exactly that. He’s got a rewarding role at a great company and feels he’s only just begun to tap into his potential. In the long term, he wants to become a solutions architect. And he has the freedom to live life the way he wants—in fact, he now works from home and has precious time to spend with his family.

From combat boots to cloud solutions, Josh's story shows the power of a clear vision and the drive to succeed. Are you ready to take your first step toward a rewarding new career journey in the ServiceNow ecosystem?
